About the Kids' 2K
Thanks to the generous support of Healthy Futures Alaska, the Children's Hospital at Providence (TCHAP) Kids' 2K Run is free to any child who wants to participate! In 2013, more than 800 kids registered for this event.
One of the goals of BWLR and Healthy Futures Alaska is to create more opportunities for kids to be active through play and exercise and to teach them healthy life skills that will stick with them into adulthood. 2014 will be the third year the Kids' 2K is held on its own day. Participants have more room to spread out and more time to learn about fun ways to be active.
TCHAP Kids' 2K (about 1.2 miles) is a no-pressure fun run on the Delaney Parkstrip on Saturday, Aug. 16. The entire course is located on the Delaney Parkstrip between E and I Streets and one block south of the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center. The start/finish area is closest to 10th and E Streets. The race starts at 9:30 AM.
Afterward, expect family-friendly activities. Each kid receives a hat and a medal.
Although, the event is free, all participants must register and receive their bibs before the start of the race. Parents can register their children online or in person at the Health and Fitness Expo. Donations are welcome to help defray the costs of putting on this event. Parents are welcome to run with their kids but need not register. Sign up at ChronoTrack Live.
After the Race
After the kids' 2K event, stick around to watch The Anchorage Mile -- a sprint race circling the park strip. See the course here. After that you might want to walk over to the Egan Civic and Convention Center to check out the Health and Fitness Expo.
